About Me

I am Vanisha. I also go by the name of Nish, Nisha, Van or V depending on who you ask.

I was born and brought up in a suburb called Petaling Jaya, Malaysia which is about a 20 minute drive from Kuala Lumpur. When I was 19 I left home for Wales, United Kingdom where I pursued a degree in Law. I continued to live in England and Wales for the next 6 years, where I met some of my best friends, learning the ways of life. I moved back home to Malaysia after being away for about 6 years.

During the day I can be found relishing in my role as an managing editor for a large publishing company. And if you catch me daydreaming, I'm mostly likely thinking about the layout for my next blogpost!

I currently also supply cakes to a local cafe, and take baking orders whenever possible. You can find my portfolio on Facebook under Nish Bakes.

Food

I have always been surrounded by food. Malaysia by its nature is known for its vast variety of different foods. Being a melting pot of various races and religions, its no surprise that we have the best food available at any time of the day! Chinese, Indian, Malay, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, Italian, British and Indonesian are only some of the cuisines available throughout the country. Essentially Malaysia is a country of foodies where having a salad for a meal is almost frowned upon!

I have always been surrounded by food and my earliest food memories revolve around my Grandmother. I have vivid memories of sitting on the counter-top in her kitchen, chopping up bits and pieces of vegetable with a plastic knife while she cooked up a feast regularly.

It was only in University when I started experimenting with the idea of cooking and baking on a consistent basis and soon, emailing Mum asking for a specific recipe became a common occurrence. I mean how many portions of chips, cheese and gravy, onion rings or chicken nuggets can one consume without feeling guilt and disgust at the same time.

Photography

What started as an attempt to record my victories in the kitchen soon developed into a fascination for photography as well, with terms like ISO and white balance initially confusing the heck out of me. I currently shoot with a Nikon D3200, together with a 50mm lens (purchased mainly for food photography). Occasionally, I also use my trusty Samsung S5 if I am in a rush!

Other interests

Although cooking and baking has become an integral part of my weekly routine, I can also be found watching re-runs of my favourite TV series, carrying out various DIY projects, trying to motivate myself to go for a run, plan another holiday and wedding plan!  And I love swimming, being outdoors and on the beach.
